Another special Remembrance Trees campaign

January 10th, 2012

Remembrance Trees raised $3959 for Hospice EBOP in 2011.

This shows amazing generosity from our Whakatane, Kawerau and Opotiki communities during difficult economic conditions.  A very big thank you to everyone who made a donation when placing a message on one of our trees.

Also thank you to Anne Keene for organising volunteers to manage the trees, to Mann Printing for the tree cards and Val Windley for making the bows.

Remembrance Trees is one of our most special annual campaigns as it offers people a chance to send a message to loved ones who’ve passed away at a time of the year when they are thinking of them most.

Toast to the Coast raises an incredible $50,000!!

January 9th, 2012
The second biennial Toast to the Coast home tour was another resounding success with an amazing $50,000 raised for Hospice EBOP.

Held in November 2011, the event attracted visitors from all over New Zealand as well as some international guests.  Ten stunning homes were on display across the eastern bay.  Champage was offered en-route and the renowned eastern bay sun shone for all three days.

An enormous thank you to the organising committee – Lynda Osborne, Carmel Jones, Laura Austin and Wendy Dunlop.  This amzing team put in countless hours to produce what’s become one of our region’s must attend events.  Thank you also to those who lent their homes for 2011, to all the sponsors and for the hundreds of volunteers who give up their time to make it happen.

Save the dates for our next Toast to the Coast – November 1-3, 2013

Building opening: 20 January 2012

December 13th, 2011

Our refurbished Hospice premises at 39 Goulstone Road will be officially opened at 4pm on 20 January 2012.  The Hon Mr Tony Ryall will cut the ribbon and formal proceedings will be followed by a tour of the buildings and light refreshments.

Hospice patients and staff are looking forward to the new premises.  Until now many Hospices services have been provided off-site and the nurses have been operating in difficult conditions due to lack of space. Thanks to the Eastern Bay Energy Trust, Sutherland Self Help Trust, time donated by community groups and amazing efforts from all the workmen involved, Hospice EBOP can now offer improved services to patients and their families across the eastern bay.

Members of the community are welcome to attend the opening.  Please RSVP by Monday 9 January to pr@hospiceebop.org.nz or phone 07 307 2244.

Give it Up for Hospice huge success

December 12th, 2011

The recent national Give it Up for Hospice campaign has been a huge success for our own shop in Whakatane and many others around the country.  Our own community dug deep with donations of clothing, shoes and accessories flooding into the shop during November.

From November 21, the shop met a surge of shoppers wanting to get their hands on Give it Up bargains and other shop items were also snapped up.  Our late night, held on 24 November, was a great success with almost double the average full day’s shop takings from 5-7pm.  Shoppers enjoyed listening to Gin Wigmore, who endorsed the campaign, while sipping on a glass of bubbly.

A big thank you must go out to Wendy and her team of shop volunteers for all the hard work put in during the campaign.  Thanks also to local media 1XX and The Whakatane Beacon who once again went the extra mile for Hospice EBOP.
