Kaiawhina with an interest in Palliative Care
Everyone in the offices on Goulstone Road are being busy little buzzy bees. A little too buzzy we think – especially our clinical team.
They need some backup….…reinforcements….. a helping hand and we have someone in mind – someone who can assist our clinical team, someone who has their level 3-4 certificate and at least two years’ experience providing hands on care, ideally in the community or in a hospital / care facility. Someone who has an interest in palliative care, is very tech savvy and has a working knowledge of Te Reo.
Could this be you? You will be out and about visiting patients and whanau in the community to facilitate Telehealth sessions with our Clinical Nurse Specialist and also doing hands on care to guide and support whānau.
We’re looking for someone who has the same passion we do for making the end-of life journey easier and more comfortable for our patients. We ask that you have a good understanding of Palliative Care and are comfortable caring for people with a life limiting illness.
You’ll be working under the general supervision of the RN/CNS’s in our team and out in the community with patients and carers, so you’ll need to have great interpersonal skills and time management but also be able to communicate sensitively with our patients and their families.
We’re caring for patients and their whānau at a highly vulnerable stage of their life and our clinical team see them through until their last day and then for some time afterwards with their loved ones.
We bond with our patients, and the ‘job’ becomes not a job anymore. You’ll find a connection to this job like you’ve never had before.
Our community needs us, and we want to be able to fulfil these needs to the best of our abilities.
You will need;
-
Certificate in Health Care Assistant – Level 3-4.
-
Current New Zealand Drivers license
-
Be a citizen of New Zealand or have permanent residency.
The role will require you to be confident to work independently in the community to;
-
Work under the guidance of Registered Nurses (RN/CNS) to engage, support and care for patients and whānau,
-
Provide culturally appropriate holistic community care to patients and whānau affected by life-limiting illnesses,
-
Facilitate the delivery of telehealth / video consultations,
-
Carry out tasks as delegated by the RN / CNS
-
Educate and support families / whānau and caregivers to care for the patient.
-
Develop and maintain effective and professional communications with patients, families / whānau, health professionals and others that engage in Hospice EBOP services.
Have we sold it to you yet?
Here’s what we can also offer you...
No night shifts or shift work!
We’re all part cheerleader, if you want to further your career, we will be in the background with pompoms and cheesy smiles. We love families. If you have a family (this includes pets), you’re almost expected to share stories of your weekends with us since we’ll be your new work family.
We’re a flexible and friendly bunch and this means if you want a Thursday off in November to watch your kids in at the end of year show – then you most likely can. Make notes so you can tell us all about it on Friday. We love a good end of year show.
Our work environment is very supportive full of exceptional huggers and great listeners. The admin team is not only there to support the clinical team, but to provide emotional support for the days that aren’t as upbeat. Although this work can be tough, the working environment here is super supportive and cake just magically appears quite regularly.
How can you apply?
We’d love to hear from you. Call us on 07 307 2244 to have a chat about the job, or come in for a cup of tea and a chat at 37 Goulstone Road, Whakatāne.
