Kaiawhina / Health Care Assistant Level 4

 

Part Time Palliative Care Kaiawhina / Level 4 HCA to cover Opotiki to Te Kaha and beyond (as far as Lottin Point)

​

Are you

  • based in Ōpōtiki or surrounds (or maybe even based in Whakatāne and you love to drive)?

  • a level 4 HCA with current experience of providing hands-on care?

  • interested in learning more about Palliative Care?

  • pretty tech savvy and know your way around a computer and a phone?

 

We’re still on the lookout for someone to join our team as a Kaiawhina / Health care Assistant. Someone who is confident working alongside our clinical nurse specialist to provide care and support to patients  in their own homes, as well as teaching whānau how to care for a bedbound person at the end of life.

If you’re currently working toward your Level 4 HCA qualification, then we’d still love to hear from you as we can provide training  and support to strengthen your skills, setting you up for a fulfilling role in health care.

​

You’ll need to have:

  • great communication skills

  • a high level of empathy 

  • very good time management.

  • an understanding of Tīkanga Māori 

 

You will ideally be able to speak Te Reo, however this is not a specific requirement of the role.

​

We’re caring for patients and their whānau at a highly vulnerable stage of their life and our clinical team guide them through this journey until their last day and then for some time afterwards with their loved ones.

​

We want to be there when our community needs us and we’re looking for someone to help us do that.

​

Requirements

  • Certificate in Health Care Assistant – Level 3-4

  • Current New Zealand Driver’s license

  • Good internet connection

  • Confident with technology and working on-line

 

You will need to be

  • A New Zealand Citizen or permanent resident

 

The role will require you to be confident to work independently in the community to:

  • Facilitate the delivery of telehealth / video consultations,

  • Provide culturally appropriate holistic community care to patients and whānau affected by life-limiting illnesses

  • Work under the guidance of Registered Nurses (RN/CNS) to engage, support and care for patients and whānau

  • Carry out tasks as delegated by the RN / CNS

  • Educate and support families / whānau and caregivers to care for the patient

  • Develop and maintain effective and professional communications with patients, families / whānau, health professionals and others that engage in Hospice EBOP services
