Nurse Practitioner with Specialist Palliative Experience

*Hours are negotiable

Are you a Nurse Practitioner who can confidently navigate complex care while keeping compassion front and centre?

We’re looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join our super friendly, super close-knit Hospice team. This is a role for someone who combines advanced clinical expertise with genuine warmth — someone who can support patients and whānau through some of life’s hardest moments.

We have a busy, bustling crew, where everyone pitches in to keep our Rau Ora Hospice ticking along. This work truly matters to our community, so we carry it out with pride and purpose. It sometimes means that your coffee will get cold, the butter won’t melt on the scone anymore and on the odd occasion, someone has finished all the lollies in the lolly jar. All in all though, the laughter still flows down the hallways, and doors are always open for advice.

We’re here to help you settle in, we can even provide a puppy if that will help. Or cake.

If you’ve gotten this far, we think we might just be your people because we like people. That’s why we do what we do.

You will need;

  • Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the Nursing Council of New Zealand.

  • Current New Zealand Driver’s license

  • New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency.

The role will require you to be confident to work independently in the community to;

  • Provide culturally appropriate holistic community care to patients and whānau affected by life-limiting illnesses

  • Prescribe and optimise symptom management plans

  • Work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team (who are clever, kind, 100% fuelled by cake)

  • Support and guide nursing staff and colleagues

  • Help to ensure patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time

We are looking for:

  • Solid experience in specialist palliative care with advanced skills in pain and symptom management

  • Someone who exudes genuine warmth

  • Excellent communication skills

  • A committed team player who has a flexible approach

  • Someone who loves to teach and support other clinicians (both internal and external)

  • A sense of humour (essential on the very busy days)

  • High level of computer literacy and ability to use various applications ( Teams, Heidi AI etc.)

Here’s what we can also offer you...

  • We’re a flexible bunch, some of us can almost do the splits even. But this also means, if you want a Thursday off in November to watch your kids in at the end of year show – then you most likely can. Make notes so you can tell us all about it on Friday. We love a good end of year show.

  • Our work environment is very supportive full of exceptional huggers and great listeners. The admin team is not only there to support the clinical team, but to provide emotional support and cake* for the days that aren’t as upbeat. It’s an unfortunate fact that this job in particular, is especially tough. The working environment here has grown super supportive and cake just magically appears quite regularly.

  • *Cake.
