Our Care

We believe that hospice care should be available to anyone who needs it during the final year of life, helping people make the most of every moment, which means different things to different people.

People with life limiting conditions such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, lung failure, motor neurone disease or dementia can benefit from palliative care. We care for the whole person - not just their physical needs but also their emotional, spiritual, and social needs.

Whilst hospice care is primarily focused on the person on their final journey, services are also available for their whānau both before and after their loved one has died.

Care can be provided in patients' homes or in a place of their choice, throughout the Eastern Bay of Plenty - in consultation with their doctor. We cover a large area from Matata to Ruatoki to Te Kaha.

Hospice EBOP is a registered charity and all our services are free to our community. Most of our funding is provided by Te Whatu Ora, however, the support of our community is essential to fund the services that help provide the dignity we all want for ourselves when time is limited. This extra money is achieved through grants, fundraising events, sponsorships, our local Hospice shops and through generous donations and bequests.

Our Area of Care

Our clinical team and our community volunteers care for, and visit, patients within the area from the end of Matata, just before Otamarakau, down to Murupara, Minginui and Ruatāhuna, then up to Lottin Point and back along the coast to Otamarakau.
